Understanding Brazil
Brazil’s financial markets have taken off and portfolio and direct investors are scrambling to weigh up the opportunities and measure the risks of this must-be-there BRIC market. My work and site look to address many of the key issues in Brazil’s capital markets and industrial development. Below are just a handful of key issues.
Who are the winners and losers in the frenetic M&A scene?
How is consolidation shaking up domestic markets from electronics to meat production?
Is the consumer boom and cheap access to credit sustainable or might crunch time be round the corner?
Questions such as these inform my coverage.
Consultants: What can I provide?
I produce bespoke information on Brazil that includes in-depth interviewing of local sources in Portuguese, looking to reach a wider, more eclectic source base than most media as well as news monitoring and analysis.
Clients include a leading Washington-based political risk research consultancy group; a London-based global risk consultancy; and two London- based clients specialized in preparing bespoke reports for large European investors.
Areas of coverage vary hugely: I have written weekly reports on macro areas such as understanding salary trends in Brazil and their effect on inflation. I have investigated competition and expansion plans in the burgeoning supermarket scene and talked about how Vale might achieve its ambitious and rapid capacity expansion given Brazil’s torpid bureaucracy.
Please see the Consultancy tab for more details.
Media: What do I offer?
For print media and trade press in the UK and US, I bring more than 10 years’ prior work experience in news and feature journalism in New York and London.
Media clients include Brazil Confidential, part of the Financial Times group, and sister publication The Banker as well as Euromoney Institutional Investor publications including Latin Finance, Project Finance and hedge fund publications as well as various magazines of the Risk Group. I have contributed to the Wall Street Journal and The Economist as well as specialist magazines such as Multilateral, the magazine of the Inter-American Development Bank.
